The WCC is providing a day-long Safety Seminar in cooperation with Oregon OSHA – this event will reinforce how safety is a value and not just a priority!
Construction remains one of the most dangerous industries in the U.S. For the last decade. Construction typically accounts for about 6-8% of the workforce but generates almost 20% of the fatalities which take place year after year. The deep foundation segment of the construction industry is not immune to these statistics.
Every year heavy equipment operators, ground workers and pedestrians are injured or killed by heavy mobile equipment used in construction. These injuries and fatalities are the result of a lack of swing radius protection, poor communication between ground personnel and equipment operators, poor working platforms for equipment to travel and operate from. Many of these incidents are the result of rollovers or by individuals being struck or crushed by equipment.
Training of ground personnel to safely work near and around operating deep foundation installation equipment is paramount to overall site safety. In addition, qualification and certification of deep foundation equipment operators reduces employer liability and also protects a company by demonstrating operator training in the event of an incident and investigation. The deep foundation industry has become increasingly competitive, which makes reputation a crucial component of building and maintaining a competitive edge.
